"You cannot imagine how happy you've made me! My neighbors know after hearing my cheers of joy! I am a divorced mother of two and we are on our own financially. It would have been difficult for me to pursue National Board Certification without your scholarship. Thank you for appreciating me and what I do!"

Support the National Board Scholarship Program

NBPTS is committed to doing everything possible to ensure that any teacher who wants to become a candidate, can – even those who can not afford the certification fee. That's why we created the National Board Scholarship Program. Read about the program and our generous supporters, and learn how you can participate.

The Need Is Growing
Since 1994 when the first 177 teachers achieved National Board Certification, the number of NBCTs has grown to more than 82,000. As we strive to reach a goal of 100,000 NBCTs early in the new decade, NBPTS anticipates the demand will grow.

Teachers, however, are learning that strapped school budgets require that they dig deeper into their pockets to pay for school supplies and other necessary items for their classrooms. Few have the ability to pay the $2,500 assessment fee without outside help.

Current research shows that the single most important factor in improving schools is the quality of the classroom teacher. NBPTS and your support can ensure that more students have access to a highly qualified teacher to lead them to academic success. Your support of this important program is critical to improving our nation’s academic achievement.

Your support of scholarships to help offset the $2,500 assessment fee has a significant multiplier effect in helping at least 30 students each day, depending on a teacher’s course load. You can help hundreds or thousands of students by providing teachers with National Board Scholarships.

How to Participate in the National Board Scholarship Program
Gifts can come in many forms and all gifts (regardless of size) are greatly appreciated. Consider the following ideas for how you can contribute:

  • Donate honorariums received from speaking events to benefit another teacher.
  • Make a gift in honor of an NBCT or as a tribute to a favorite teacher.
  • Instead of sending flowers to a teacher who has pursued and/or achieved National Board Certification, make a gift to the National Board Scholarship Program in his or her name.
  • Consider a gift of appreciated stock (which could provide substantial tax savings).
  • Name NBPTS in your will.
  • Encourage a local PTA to develop a scholarship fund to benefit teachers in your district.
  • Approach local businesses, foundations and community organizations to support the National Board Scholarship Program.
