National Board Certification certificate areas, which are based on the NBPTS standards, are designed to help candidates demonstrate the knowledge, skills, dispositions and commitments of accomplished teachers.

Choosing the Right Certificate
A critical step to your success is identifying which certificate area is best suited for your expertise.  To assist you in making this important decision, we’ve identified several factors for you to consider.

Consider Take One!
Before embarking on the full certification process, you may wish to start with the Take One! program that requires submission of a single portfolio entry for scoring. Refer to Take One!: Preselected Portfolio Entries for a description of the portfolio entry submission required for each certificate area.

You can choose to transfer your Take One! score to National Board Certification within three years of completing the Take One! process. Refer to Becoming a Take One! Participant for information about the Take One! process, order information, and Take One! deadlines.
