Submitting Your Portfolio or PPG

It is critical that all National Board Certification candidates, renewal candidates and Take One! participants read and follow the guidelines and recommendations for successful portfolio or PPG submission. If your question is not answered below, please read the Portfolio and PPG Submission Frequently Asked Questions

Submission Deadlines

New NBPTS policy is to accept submissions according to the postmark date and not the "received by" date. Your submission must be postmarked by:

  • First-time candidates – March 31, 2008
  • Retake Candidates – April 15, 2008
  • Take One! Participants – April 15, 2008
  • Renewal Candidates – April 30, 2008

The NBPTS Processing Center
All candidate materials - including written correspondence, eligibility forms and withdrawal forms - should be sent to our processing center at:

NBPTS Processing Center
11827 Tech Com Way, Suite 200
San Antonio, Texas 78233

Submission Reminders

  • Page numbering should be in sequential order. You can choose to number each entry component separately or as one set of sequential numbers. Just remember to not exceed the page maximums for each. Cover sheets, the Contextual Information sheet (Professional Context sheet for renewal candidates), the Classroom Layout sheet, and the photo ID page should NOT be numbered.
  • Copy your written material and your video(s) before shipping. Copy all Written Commentaries, student work samples, and instructional materials. Make copies of your video recordings using the directions provided in the Get Started section of the Portfolio CD-Rom or the Video sections of the PPG. Keep all materials in a safe, easily accessible place. This will be an invaluable step in the event your submission is lost en route to the NBPTS Processing Center, or arrives in damaged condition. Retain copies until you receive your score results.
  • Ensure ALL critical components are included in the proper entry envelopes. National Board Certification candidates and Take One! participants should be aware that if any component is missing, your score profile will report an “NS” for that entry, meaning it was “Not Scorable.” If an entire entry is missing from your submission, the exercise score for the missing entry will be blank on your score report, unless it is a retake entry, in which case your previous score will remain. Candidates with incomplete score profiles cannot achieve National Board Certification. Certification Renewal candidates should be aware that if a critical component is missing, an automatic “Not Renewed” decision will be made.
  • Use the Checklist in the Pack & Ship section of your portfolio or PPG CD-ROM to ensure material is appropriately labeled and packed. Place your videos inside the correct entry envelope. Mislabeled or improperly assembled material may adversely affect your score.
  • Have someone else check your labeling and packing before sealing. Entry envelopes are not opened at NBPTS and are sent to scoring exactly the way they are submitted.
  • Include the Candidate Final Inventory List in the Forms envelope.
