Identify Prospective Candidates
Start With Teachers You Know
Look around your school to identify possible candidates:
- The colleague who likes to be challenged
- Someone who enjoys teaching and works to meet high standards
- A teacher who has asked you about National Board Certification
- A person who may already be thinking about becoming a candidate but needs your extra encouragement
Look Outside Your School or School System
Reach out to teachers in other schools and other districts:
- Host a meeting focused on National Board Certification and reasons that teachers should consider the process
- Offer a short presentation at a faculty meeting
- Stay after a faculty meeting and seek out individuals to speak to
- If a school in your area has no NBCTs, contact faculty members to personally discuss the benefits of the process
- Look for potential candidates at your regional, state or national professional organization meetings
