NBPTS Candidate Support Provider Training
NBPTS now offers the dynamic Candidate Support Provider (CSP) Training Program in two formats! The curriculum has been converted into an online course, so NBCTs have the option to take CSP Training online OR face-to-face. To find out if a face-to-face CSP Training is being offered in your area, contact your local school district or look on your district Web site. CSP Face-to-Face Training
The 2-day Candidate Support Provider (CSP) Face-to-Face Training is designed to provide new and experienced candidate support providers with the practical knowledge, skills, and tools needed to successfully support teacher candidates during their National Board Certification® process. By completing the 2-day face-to-face CSP Training, you will earn the same certificate of completion as the CSP Online Course. The course goals, learning objectives, target audience, and course content is the same as the online course, so now you have the option to take the course either face-to-face or online, if the face-to-face training is offered in your area.
The face-to-face CSP Training spans a full 2-day period, with a total estimated completion time of 16 hours. After completing this course, you will be able to:
- Explain the fundamentals of candidate support including the Architecture of Accomplished Teaching, the roles and responsibilities of CSPs, and the different types of candidate support.
- Interpret and apply NBPTS guidelines that ensure ethical candidate support.
- Explain the processes used for scoring portfolio entries and assessment center exercises and apply these scoring policies when supporting retake candidates.
- Apply adult learning principles, use effective communication skills, and set biases aside when working with candidates.
- Prepare yourself to review portfolio entries by collecting and reviewing background resources such as the NBPTS Standards, portfolio instructions, and scoring guide.
- Review portfolio entries, locate elements of evidence, and provide meaningful feedback to candidates to help them deepen their level of thinking about their teaching practices.
The CSP Face-to-Face Training is not offered to individuals, so contact your local school district to find out if it is being hosted in your area. If it is not, the CSP Online Course could be the perfect alternative for you!
