Teacher Leadership

NBCT Policy Summits

NBPTS, NBCTs and key state education stakeholders discuss and develop strategies and policy recommendations for getting and keeping accomplished teachers in high-needs schools. The National Education Association acts as primary partner for the summits. Reports of state summits have been written with the help of the Center for Teaching Quality. Read more about their work with the summits. In addition, to the previously hosted summits, NBPTS is collaborating with the Hunt Institute for Education Leadership and Policy and the NEA to host a National Strategy Forum to bring together state teams from the summit states. Those teams will develop recommendations that can become part of a national strategy on supporting and staffing high-needs schools.

Mississippi Policy Summit

“Every Child Deserves Success,” (PDF - 309kb) is the result of an education policy summit held in August 2007 dedicated to creating solutions to one of Mississippi’s most pressing educational issues––how to attract and retain high-quality teachers in schools that are struggling with teacher turnover and poor student achievement.

National Strategy Forum Report

NBPTS in collaboration with the NEA and seven of its state affiliates, state education agencies, and other business and non-profit groups, have sponsored NBCT Policy Summits during the past two years on supporting and staffing high-need schools. The conversation has moved to a national level. In advance of the National Strategy Forum, in Asheville, N.C., on Oct. 4-5, 2007, (by invitation only) the Center for Teaching Quality has prepared a report that presents the state summit outcomes and outlines other initiatives to this complex and systemic challenge.
