Delaware is pleased to announce that funding is available to help offset the cost of the assessment fee. This funding is made possible through a Federal Subsidy grant from the United States Department of Education and the Delaware General Assembly. Funding Available - First-Time Candidates State Funding
For fiscal year 2004, the Delaware General Assembly appropriated $20,800 to the Delaware Department of Education (DOE) for candidate support and $100,000 to the Delaware Higher Education Commission (DHEC) of DOE for a National Board Certification Loan Program. DHEC shall administer a non-competitive loan program for educators pursuing certification from the National Board for Professional Standards. Loans shall be made to cover costs associated with the application fee and assessment process. If there are more individuals requesting funds than funds appropriated, DHEC shall prorate the loans provided. Loans shall be interest-free as long as funds are repaid within two years of achieving National Board Certification or within three years from the start of the program whether the borrower is successful or not. If the loan repayment is not fulfilled within the aforementioned terms, the borrower must repay all funds received with interest as determined by the Delaware Higher Education Commission. Funding Available - First-Time Candidates Federal Funding
The Delaware Department of Education (DDOE) will utilize NBPTS "Spring" Candidate Subsidy funds to assist qualified first-time candidates with the assessment fees. To be eligible for a DDOE subsidy, candidates must meet NBPTS eligibility guidelines as well as DDOE requirements. DDOE will contact those candidates who are eligible to receive assessment subsidy funds after a review of the candidate applications for financial assistance. Priority will be given to candidates from districts that currently do not offer financial support for assessment fees and to candidates from low performing/high poverty schools. Deadline to apply:
Funding Available Retake Candidates
The Delaware Department of Education (DDOE) will use NBPTS Candidate Subsidy funds for retake assessment fees for qualified applicants. To be eligible for a DDOE subsidy, candidates must meet NBPTS eligibility guidelines as well as DDOE requirements. Deadline to apply: WINDOW CLOSED
