North Carolina Candidate Financial Support

North Carolina is pleased to announce that funding is available to help offset the cost of the assessment fee. This funding is made possible through legislaton from the State of North Carolina  and through a Federal Subsidy grant from the United States Department of Education Please read the information below for specific details, deadlines and contact information.

Funding Available


Funding Available - First-Time Candidates State Funding
The state of North Carolina will pay, up front, the candidate application fee for all eligible North Carolina teachers. Window to apply: March 1-October 31, 2008


Funding Available - First-Time Candidates Federal Funding
First-time candidates who are not in state paid positions may be eligible to receive federal subsidy funds from the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.

Funding Available Retake Candidates
The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction provides $350 in federal subsidy funds to eligible retake candidates for one retake entry/exercise.  Deadline to Apply: WINDOW CLOSED

Scholarships


Several organizations provide scholarship support to candidates pursuing National Board Certification. For more information, visit the Scholarship page.

State Information


• The state of North Carolina has signed the NASDTEC Interstate Contract and will award the highest comparable teaching license to any person who has obtained National Board Certification in an area corresponding to that for which licensure is sought, provided that the applicant also holds a comparable and valid license issued by any member state and has complied with any requirements of the receiving state regarding degrees held, citizenship, and moral, ethical, physical and mental fitness.

 

• North Carolina provides the following for NBPTS candidates:

    • Three paid professional/release days to work on the portfolio entries and study or complete the assessment exercises
    • 15 continuing education units (CEUs), a complete NC teaching renewal cycle, for completion of the National Board Certification process during the year of initial candidacy

 

• North Carolina provides the following for National Board Certified Teachers:

    • A 12% salary differential to the teachers' regular base salary upon receipt of National Board Certification, good for the 10-year life of the certification, per the requirements of the legislation
    • A North Carolina teaching license to out-of-state teachers employed in North Carolina who possess National Board Certification
