North Dakota is pleased to announce that funding is available to help offset the cost of the assessment fee. This funding is made possible through a Federal Subsidy grant from the United States Department of Education. Please read the information below for specific details, deadlines and contact information.
Funding Available - First-Time Candidates State Funding
Legislation provides up to $40,000 to assist up to 17 eligible teachers with one-half of the assessment fee.
Funding Available - First-Time Candidates Federal Funding
The North Dakota Department of Public Instruction will utilize NBPTS Candidate Subsidy funds to support up to 10 candidates at 50% of the certification fee. Candidates will be selected on a first-come, first-served basis. Candidates must meet NBPTS eligibility guidelines. Teachers interested in using candidate subsidy funds to help with the fee MUST submit their NBC application through the program administrator. Deadline to Apply: July 1-December 1, 2008
Funding Available Retake Candidates
The North Dakota Department of Public Instruction does not provide funding for retake candidates.

a. At the conlusion of each school year after an individual receives National Board Certification, the board shall pay to an individual an additional one thousand dollars ($1,000) for the life of the National Board Certification certificate if:
(1) The individual was employed during the school year as a full-time classroom teacher by a school district in this state; and
(2) The indiviudal participated in any efforts of the employing school district to develop and implement teacher mentoring programs.
b. The payment provided for in this subsection is available beginning with the 2007-2008 school year.
