State Information
This page reflects the most recent information available to the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards at the time of posting. Incentives listed below are offered at the discretion of the individual local agencies or contracts and are subject to change. The National Board for Professional Teaching Standards is not responsible for the accuracy of the information found herein. Please contact the appropriate local or state agency directly to confirm the incentives listed and contact us with any updates at outreach@nbpts.org.
- Based on availability of funds, the State of Nevada may reimburse a portion of out-of-pocket fees paid after National Board Certification is achieved and verified.
- National Board Certified Teachers (NBCTs) receive an annual five percent salary increase above the normal salary they are entitled to, as required by Nevada Revised Statutes, for the life of the certificate and under other specified terms therein. (NRS 391.160)
- In addition, the Nevada Commission on Professional Standards also passed regulations which provides for:
- The issuance of a "license with any endorsements that they qualify for, to a person who holds a valid National Board Certificate," awarded by the the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards.
- The holder of National Board Certification to be licensed for a period of 10 years (same as doctoral degree).
- The renewal for the National Board Certification for an additional 10 years is to “show evidence of professional growth in the area of endorsement during the term of the license” (same as doctoral degree).
- The renewal of a license in Nevada requires six credits hours for holders of a bachelor’s degree over five years, and five credits for holders of a master’s degree over six years. This regulation was amended to provide for: “Six credits will be given for the completion of all requirements of National Board Certification as evidenced by a copy of the official assessment scores provided by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards. A person does not have to be awarded National Board Certification in order to earn the credits.”
- The state of Nevada has signed the 2005-2010 NASDTEC Interstate Contract and will award their highest level certificate to any person who has obtained National Board Certification in an area corresponding to that for which certification is sought, provided the applicant also holds a comparable and valid certificate issued by any Member state and has complied with any requirements of the receiving state regarding experience, degrees held, citizenship, and moral, ethical, physical, and mental fitness and completion of any post-baccalaureate study required by the receiving Member.
