Kara Ball, NBCT is the 2018 DoDEA teacher of the year and a finalist for National Teacher of the Year. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education and Special Education from Towson University and went on to earn a Master’s of Education with a Specialization in Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment from Walden University. She is an accomplished and award-winning National Board Certified Teacher. She has helped establish programs in her schools including Girls on the Run, Global Cardboard Challenge, Science Olympiad, and the STEM Carnival. Ms. Ball was also a finalist for the Presidential Award for Excellence in Math and Science Teaching.

Over the past four years, I have worked as my school district’s STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) Coordinator. I was given the opportunity to develop an elementary STEM program in my school as a teacher for the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA). We educate, engage, and empower military connected students to succeed in a dynamic world. Our students in DoDEA are the children of active duty military and DoD civilian families on military installations in 11 foreign countries, seven states, Guam, and Puerto Rico.
