National Board Celebrates Team NBCT Week and Announces Thousands of Educators Achieve National Board Certification

ARLINGTON, VA. – January 27, 2025

The National Board for Professional Teaching Standards announced today that 4,355 educators became National Board Certified Teachers (NBCTs), and 4,884 educators maintained their certification in the 2023-2024 school year. These accomplishments bring the total number of NBCTs to more than 141,000. National Board Certified Teachers uphold the profession’s highest standards, profoundly improving learning outcomes for students and making a lasting impact on schools and communities. By pursuing Board certification, these educators have demonstrated an unwavering dedication to their student’s success.

This week, January 27-31, the National Board is celebrating #TeamNBCT Week, a week-long campaign to honor and celebrate the new and existing National Board Certified Teachers and recognize their invaluable contributions to education.

“We’re thrilled to welcome this year’s cohort of NBCTs into the ever-growing community of accomplished educators,” said Peggy Brookins, NBCT, President and CEO of the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards. “As an NBCT, I know firsthand the transformative power of this process—for educators and their students. Every day, these educators bring excellence to their classrooms, inspiring their students and advancing the quality of education. This week, and every week, we celebrate their commitment to ensuring every child has access to the best possible teaching.”

About the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (www.nbpts.org):

The founding mission of the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards is to advance the quality of teaching and learning by: maintaining high and rigorous standards for what accomplished teachers should know and be able to do; providing a national voluntary system certifying teachers who meet these standards, and advocating related education reforms to integrate National Board Certification in American education and to capitalize on the expertise of National Board Certified Teachers. Recognized as the “gold standard” in teacher certification, the National Board believes higher standards for teachers means better learning for students.
